JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

An Economic Development Manager (EDM) performs a wide variety of activities to attract new development opportunities and promote the Maricopa Economic Development Alliance and the City of Maricopa’s value(s) as a business location, generate qualified prospects and improve the competitiveness of the community’s business climate. An employee of this caliber will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including city officials, business leaders, real estate professionals, economic development organizations and promote Maricopa as an ideal destination for business investment. The EDM will also perform statistical comparisons and trend analysis to be used in marketing and promotional materials, is responsible for analyzing trends, economic markets, assist in the development and planning of potential and existing greenfield commercial land sites, strengthening relationships with key industries, supporting sales presentations and prospect tours, building resources, create new economic programs for educating the public and performs related duties as required. An EDM may be assigned to assist in implementing a targeted program that integrates multiple platforms to influence and build relationships with prospects, consultants,residents, company decision makers, and media information sources; proactively identifying and addressing community business climate issues; and assisting in providing research and information, and/or technology support needed to execute these tasks.

Essential Duties:

•Develop and execute comprehensive business attraction strategies and initiatives to attract new companies and industries to the City of Maricopa.
• Conduct market research and analysis to identify target industries, potential investors and business expansion opportunities.
• Identify and cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national business prospects, investors, site selectors, economic development stakeholders/partners and industry influencers.
• Assist with targeted responses to business leads, coordinate prospect visits, meet with prospective developers and business representatives to discuss opportunities and provide critical decision-making information.
• Assist with identifying, developing and administering local, state, federal and foundation grants in support of economic development initiatives.
• Serve as a point of contact and provide personalized support and assistance to businesses interested in locating or expanding in Maricopa.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the site selection process, including identifying suitable properties, navigating regulatory requirements and facilitating incentive negotiations.
• Create compelling marketing materials, proposals and presentations to promote Maricopa’s unique advantages and attract business investment.
• Stay updated on economic development trends, industry best practices and legislative changes impacting business attraction and economic growth.
• Coordinate and participate in trade shows, conferences, networking and local events to showcase Maricopa’s economic potential and build relationships with key stakeholders.
• Create and maintain a quality network of industry contacts, business owners, consultants, company decision makers and real estate professionals.
• Collaborate with local government officials, community organizations and educational institutions to develop programs and initiatives that support business attraction and workforce development.
• Monitor and evaluate the impact of business attraction efforts, track key performance indicators and assist in preparation of reports for internal and external stakeholders.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Requirements:

• Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Development, Business, Economics, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Analytics, Marketing, Research, Communications, International Business, Political Science, Commercial Real Estate or a similarly related field is encouraged. Master’s and Doctoral degrees are welcomed.
• Two years of employment in a professional-level capacity in economic development (preferred) or related area.
• Experience in economic development, business attraction, site selection or related fields, preferably in a public-private partnership or nonprofit organizations.
• In-depth knowledge of economic development principles, business attraction strategies and industry trends.
• Strong understanding of site selection factors, real estate development, utilities and economic incentive programs.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Exceptional communication, presentation and public speaking abilities to effectively convey Maricopa’s value proposition to potential investors and businesses.
• Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to gather and interpret data for strategic decision-making.
• Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
• Knowledge of local government processes, regulations and permitting procedures related to business attraction and development is a plus.
• Ability to assist the CEO, to travel, as needed, for business development and representation purposes.

• Online database software and Microsoft Office suite programs and the use of computer software programs (example: dBase, GIS, desktop publishing such as Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Canva is a plus), utilizing economic development software, CRM systems, the internet and other relevant tools,is desired.
